Your Role as Assistant Director for Support Services

At the Griff Center, our staff are dedicated to student retention, comprehensive advisement, and career services. The Assistant Director of Support Services plays a key role in ensuring accessibility, academic, and testing center support as well as quality tutoring for students. This position also collaborates across campus to maintain legal compliance and promote student success. This is a modified full-time, 11-month, exempt position.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Accessibility Services & The Testing Center

  • Manage new and ongoing accommodation for students with disabilities (e.g., notetaking, testing, assistive technology, housing, etc.)
  • Ensure full compliance with ADA and Section 504: maintain confidential documentation and stay current with laws, regulations, and best practices. 
  • Oversee the Testing Center: facilitate exams with accommodation, manage make-up exams, schedule and supervise testing operations. 
  • Collaborate with departments such as Student Life, Student Records & Financial Services, and Facilities to ensure students receive appropriate accommodation.
  • Coordinate and communicate professionally and confidentially with faculty and staff regarding office policies and procedures. 
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train student assistants on relevant procedures and policies.

Tutoring Center:

  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train tutors, graduate assistants, student assistants, and evening supervisors. 
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive training program for tutors that aligns with CRLA (College Reading & Learning Association) standards. 
  • Provide outreach to faculty regarding tutor selection, training needs, and monitoring session outcomes. 
  • Supervise the work of tutors and student assistants in Tutoring Services. 
  • Design, implement, and manage an assessment plan for Tutoring Services. 
  • Provide support and coaching for tutors encountering challenges with tutees. 
  • Oversee payment schedules for all tutoring personnel; maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Success Coach for the School of Education and Leadership Studies.
  • Participate in campus committees and contribute to institutional initiatives. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned to promote student success and holistic support.

 

What You Need to Succeed:

âś” Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work; Counselor Education; Higher Education/Student Affairs Administration; or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of professional work experience in relevant areas (e.g. student support, accessibility, academic services).
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong follow-through. 
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. 
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines under pressure. 
  • Advanced computer proficiency; ability to learn institutional systems, including the BANNER system and Navigate.
  • Professional demeanor; ability to work with students, faculty, administrators, and the public in a respectful, confidential manner.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
