Your Role as Visiting Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice

Canisius University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in the Department of Criminal Justice for the Spring 2026 academic semester. This is a teaching-focused position with no research or service obligations. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching four classes and holding office hours to meet with students.


What You Need to Succeed:

Qualifications:

  • Candidates who are ABD or hold a JD or MA degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice or a closely related field required ; PhD preferred.
  • Prior successful teaching experience at the college/university level required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively teach undergraduate courses in criminology and criminal justice. Experience in some, but not all, of the courses listed below is required:
    • Introduction to Criminology
    • Comparative Criminal Justice Systems
    • Treatment of Offenders
    • Criminalizing the Mentally Ill
    • Senior Seminar
  • Candidate must be available to teach assigned courses in person on the Canisius University campus.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and student learning within a liberal arts context.
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of Canisius University and the Jesuit tradition in education.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
