Your Role as Student Success Librarian
The Student Success Librarian is appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Student Success Librarian develops and leads outreach initiatives tailored to all students, collaborates with library colleagues and stakeholders across the campus to provide meaningful activities, services, and collections that foster student learning along with a sense of belonging. The Student Success Librarian coordinates and provides instruction, research support, and outreach services for first-year and transfer students, and collaborates with academic programs and offices to develop library initiatives that promote student success and retention.
This is a modified full-time, exempt, 11-month position. Employment is governed by the Librarian Handbook Policies and Procedures: Part IID: Personnel Policies for Librarians. The Librarian, Collection and Instructional Services works in the context of the mission of Canisius University by “supporting students, faculty, and staff in achieving academic excellence in the Catholic intellectual tradition. It is our Ignatian calling to be men and women for others in service to the University and community.”
Key Responsibilities:
🔹 Build dynamic new programming to engage students and enrich their learning experience.
🔹 Teach course-integrated information literacy and library research instruction throughout the Core Curriculum, Honors, and academic programs, including the creation of asynchronous learning tools and objects. This role focuses on introductory information literacy education and will provide support for all students, but emphasis is on first-year students, first generation students, international students, and transfer students.
🔹 Provide support to the First Year Experience program.
🔹 Arrange for traditional library students, and programs for students, faculty, and staff (e.g. new student orientation, wellness programs, connectivity fairs).
🔹 Develop relationships and engage with library-building partners and other University departments.
🔹 Support student-centered collection management.
🔹 Provide reference assistance to students, faculty and staff, alumni and visiting patrons.
🔹 Serve as an educator who develops and supports information-literate learners across the college community who can discover, access, evaluate, and use information effectively for academic success, research, and lifelong learning.
🔹 Actively participate in the Library Liaison Program.
🔹 Demonstrate a commitment to high level customer service, model excellent customer service for support staff and student employees.
🔹 Interpret library policies and procedures for patrons while handling their questions or concerns in a professional and friendly manner.
🔹 Serve on library, university and other related committees.
🔹 Exhibit a commitment to support the Canisius University and ALB Library mission, vision, goals, and objectives.
🔹 Other duties as assigned by the Library Director.
