Canisius University invites interested and qualified persons to apply for the position of part-time Assistant Coach for Swimming and Diving. Canisius is a member of the Division I Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.  The Assistant Coach reports to the Head Coach. This is a 10 month part-time position working August through May.

 

Responsibilities:

  • On deck coaching and assistance with practice planning. The assistant coach is expected to attend all practices unless they have class or are excused by the Head Coach.
  • Assist the Head Coach with any event planning such as camps, home meets, or road trips.
  • Participating in the implementation of the recruiting plan. This plan includes making preliminary phone calls to prospective student-athletes, assembling mailings with the approval of the head coach, attending high school meets for scouting purposes, assisting with the planning and preparation of an official visit.
    • (The assistant coach will be permitted to offer an official visit invitation without prior approval from the head coach. Likewise, the head coach is the only individual with the authority to discuss scholarship possibilities/offers.)
  • Assist with equipment and uniform orders, team travel, outfitting
  • Act as the assistant Aquatics Director (additional hourly compensation)
  • Working with the GA, would be in charge of scheduling Lifeguards and Scheduling/Supervising outside events
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Playing and/or coaching experience at the Division I level is preferred.
  • Prior Swimming and Diving experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations is preferred.
  • Previous experience supervising, communicating with, and instructing student-athletes is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of student-athletes, parents, coaches, and administrators.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a positive driving record per the university’s insurance provider (or upon moving to NYS obtain a NYS driver’s license within NYS DMV residency guidelines after hire).

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary: $6,225.00 annually plus hourly pay as Aquatics Manager

The selected candidate’s actual base pay will be based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors including experience. Information about the total compensation package for this position will be provided during the interview process.
