Compensation: 

Salary: $1850 for the 4-week program period  

The Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) provides a broad range of services to New York State residents who, because of educational and economic circumstances, would otherwise be unable to attend a post-secondary educational institution. Students receive academic and financial support. The four (4) week HEOP Scholars Academy is an essential component of the program as it is designed to build on the assets and strengths of incoming first-year undergraduates. 

Position Overview:  

This position will be 4.5 hours per week from July 7, 2025 until August 1, 2025. This position provides engaging, creative, and interactive instruction and coursework to HEOP pre-freshman students who have received a New York State high school diploma or GED.  The instructor will prepare students for college-level reading. 

English Composition Course: 

  • Understanding and interpreting academic texts. 
  • Analyzing themes, arguments, and literary devices in various readings. 
  • Combining information from multiple sources to form new insights. 
  • Introduction to incorporating research into writing and proper citation techniques. 
  • Understanding and applying grammar rules to create clear, coherent sentences 
  • Expanding vocabulary and using words effectively in context. 
  • Develop scholarly writing skills. 

 

Compensation: 

 

Salary: $1850 for the 4-week program period  

Job Description: 

  • Available to teach an English course 3 days a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. 
  • Attending weekly staff meetings with the HEOP team and other professors from the program. 
  • Attending orientation with HEOP staff members. 
  • Provide weekly grade and behavioral reports during staff meetings. 
  • Provide a final exam and grades for the students through the summer program. 
  • Provide a syllabus of what will be taught during the summer program. 

Qualifications: 

  • Previous experience working with students from underserved communities, economically and academically 
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in education, English, or a related field 
  • Experience in teaching content area within a high school or college setting 
  • The ability to implement interactive lesson plans and skills in classroom management 
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
